More Un Constitutional Actions

In KSM Trial, Politics—Not Precedent—Rules

by Guy Rodgers, Executive Director

www.actforamerica.org

Criticism and outrage continues to grow over Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision to try 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM) in a criminal court in New York. Joining the chorus of criticism is the former Chairman of the 9/11 Commission (see story below).

Last week, a “teachable moment” (to quote President Obama) occurred when Mr. Holder appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Senator Lindsey Graham asked Mr. Holder if he could cite one prior case where an enemy combatant the likes of KSM had been tried in a criminal court.

I watched Mr. Holder’s response. (You can too by clicking here.) You would think he would have researched this prior to making his decision. You would think there was some precedent to justify this outrageous decision. You would think he would have been prepared to answer such an obvious question.

Instead, Holder stammered, hemmed and hawed. This was the proverbial “deer caught in the headlights” moment. Holder could only muster a tepid response that he would “have to look at that.” (In other words, he hadn’t!)

Senator Graham stepped in and informed Mr. Holder that there is not a single case precedent for the decision to try Mohammed in a criminal court.

Not one.

What’s more, Sen. Graham proceeded to ask Holder if he would try Osama bin Laden in a criminal court. Holder’s response was to evade and dodge giving a definitive answer.

There is no legal or logical justification for Holder’s decision to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in criminal court. So what is driving it?

The only answer I can conclude is the Obama administration’s political agenda. They want to “show the world” that we can conduct this case in a criminal court (a sentiment echoed by many Democrats on the Judiciary Committee during Holder’s appearance).

This begs the question: Why are we putting what the world thinks ahead of what’s in our national interest?

They are also playing to the politically correct, blame-America-first crowd that is quick to find fault with anything America does while excusing and rationalizing the cruelty and brutality of our enemies.

In other words, Holder’s decision was not based on legal precedent, sound legal reasoning, good policy, or what’s good for the country.

It was based on politics.

Former 9/11 Commission Chairman
Criticizes Plan for New York Trial

In this 2004 file photo, Thomas Kean is seen testifying on Capitol Hill. (AP Photo)

Thomas Kean, in his first public comments on the matter, criticizes Attorney General Eric Holder's decision to bring Sept. 11 defendants into civilian federal court, saying the trial would help Khalid Sheikh Mohammed fulfill his dreams of martyrdom in the eyes of the Muslim world.

The decision to bring Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other alleged Sept. 11 conspirators to New York City for trial will only give the self-professed mastermind of the attacks the platform for "propaganda" that he wants, the chairman of the 9/11 Commission said Tuesday.

Thomas Kean, in his first public comments on the matter, criticized Attorney General Eric Holder's decision to bring the defendants into civilian federal court, saying the trial would help Mohammed fulfill his dreams of martyrdom in the eyes of the Muslim world.

"I worry a little bit about the decision, because it's what Khalid Sheikh Mohammed wants. I mean, he wants a forum," Kean told WNYC radio. "I think he wants to be a martyr, so I think he's going to use the trial as propaganda ... and I think he wants to be Che Guevara or something like that. He's going to try to be a hero to the Muslim world."

Kean, a former Republican governor of New Jersey, joins a slew of other officials expressing concern about the decision.

New York Gov. David Paterson, a Democrat, said he would not have moved the suspects to New York for trial, while former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a Republican, told "Fox News Sunday" that the move would only grant Mohammed's "wish."

Meanwhile, Holder defended his decision Tuesday, saying his team reviewed the potential downsides for such a trial but determined federal court was the best place to prosecute the suspects. Holder said he's confident the cases will be "successful."

On the same radio show with Kean, fellow 9/11 Commission member Richard Ben-Veniste backed up Holder's choice.

"This is a crime that warrants prosecution, and the American justice system is up to the task," he said.

Desiree Jennings and the real story

Paul Joseph Watson

desiree-jenningsFormer Redskins cheerleader Desiree Jennings, the woman who suffered a paralyzing neurological disorder after taking a flu shot, has come under ceaseless attack from the medical establishment as well as websites acting as apologists for the pharmaceutical industry, who claim that her entire illness is a hoax despite the fact that her condition has been confirmed as genuine by numerous doctors.

Jennings was a fit and healthy cheerleader up until August when she got a seasonal flu shot. Ten days after the shot she began experiencing flu like symptoms, followed by severe convulsions and black outs. After seeing around 60 doctors, Jennings was eventually diagnosed with dystonia, a paralyzing neurological disorder that causes the muscles to relentlessly contract and spasm, causing extreme difficulties with walking, talking and general body movements.

Despite the fact that doctors who vigorously examined her condition at both Fairfax Inova and Johns Hopkins confirmed that she was suffering from dystonia, and that the cause of the illness was her reaction to the flu shot, numerous apologists for big pharma have ludicrously claimed that her story is a hoax and that her disease is imaginary, citing no evidence whatsoever and having had no contact with Jennings at all.

The chief culprit in erroneously circulating rumors that Jennings’ condition was a “hoax” has to be “The Inquisitr” website, a tabloid gossip rag that in-between obsessing about the vacuous activities of Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, also thinks it has the knowledge to dismiss medical conditions by watching You Tube videos. On October 22, the website carried the headline, Cheerleader Flu Shot Girl: Hoax or Real? The story mentions that Jennings’ condition had been diagnosed by several doctors as genuine, yet still implies that the story is a “hoax,” citing no proof whatsoever. The agenda behind this becomes clear when the website lambastes “anti-vaccination nutters” for merely highlighting the case.

Not content with savaging a young woman whose life was almost destroyed just once, The Inquisitr went back for a second helping, with a story on Monday claiming that Jennings is now “cured” and that, “The chances of the whole thing being a hoax just went from about 50% to pushing towards 100%.” This time around, the website didn’t even bother to mention the fact that numerous doctors at major medical establishments had personally diagnosed Jennings with neurological problems, instead they claimed that Jennings had merely “told the media” that she had the disease.

In addition, the claim that Jennings is “cured” is another contrivance. The latest footage of Desiree shows her in a chair hooked up to a drip. Jennings has made progress as a result of treatment provided by doctors in LA with the aid of Generation Rescue, the charity that helped Jenny McCarthy’s son recover from autism after a vaccine, but she is far from “cured”.

Blogger Mark Lorenz, writing on the Manolith website, viciously attacks Jennings for ‘faking’ her disease while again providing no proof at all that she faked it, failing to mention that doctors confirmed she had a disease, and failing to explain what possible benefit a young, healthy and happy cheerleader could get from wasting months of her life “feigning” a debilitating illness.

“But guess what? It was all fake,” he writes. “Yes, fake. All of the hemming and hawwing and talk over how vaccines are terrible and need to be tested more, mostly from the same people who say no food is safe to eat but raw food, and LOOK AT MY HYBRID CAR — their poster girl is fake. Sorry if I seem contemptuous, but I have no sympathy for people who go on national TV feigning illnesses and blaming them on a source that might actually do some good in the world.”

The aggressive zeal with which these bloggers have ceaselessly attacked a diseased young woman is stunning to behold, but they seem to be borrowing most of their cockamamie talking points from Dr. David Gorski, labeled “the bitchy diva of Scienceblogs,” by Age of Autism writer J.B. Handley.

In his article today, Handley exposes how Gorski, who has been on the warpath attempting to smear and discredit the “anti-vaccine movement,” has seized upon the Jennings story with wanton abandon in an effort to rebuild the credibility of vaccines that are being rejected in accelerating numbers across America due to concerns about side-effects and dangerous additives like mercury and squalene.

Handley chastises Gorski’s “angry, disrespectful, biting, caustic, and immature approach” in his efforts to counter the Desiree Jennings case. The main body of his article is reprinted below.

The Desiree Jennings case appears to be bringing out the absolute worst in many of the bloggers who oppose our community. As one example, I read a post by Dr. Steven Novella where he “reported” on a string of events involving Generation Rescue and the Desiree Jennings case that had no basis in reality and was simply false. We have neurologists breaking tabloid-level stories? Dr. Novella as investigative journalist? Too funny.

In no particular order, the Desiree Jennings case appears to be causing doctors to break all sorts of medical ethical boundaries including:

- Challenging Ms. Jennings’ original diagnosis of dystonia. Since when do doctors make long-distance video-only diagnoses? Don’t these doctors realize, by offering up potentially false commentary on the nature of Ms. Jennings diagnosis in a story that has captivated the world, that they will one day be called to task for such a glaring breach of medical ethics?

- Claiming Ms. Jennings condition is all in her head. For parents of children with autism, this one has a familiar ring. How on earth do Doctors like Gorski and Novella dare throw out a psychological diagnosis on a patient they have never examined? Thank God she found a doctor who knew it was all in her body.

- Claiming the flu shot couldn’t possibly cause her condition. Once again, how on earth does a long-distance doctor determine this? Vaccines cause a wide variety of side-effects, but Ms. Jennings’ condition just couldn’t be vaccine-induced? To hell with what doctors who did examine her actually determined, we are the only arbiters of truth. It’s nuts.

- Claiming she couldn’t possibly recover from a condition she didn’t even have. Forget the HBOT, chelation, B-12, vitamins, etc., Ms. Jennings couldn’t possibly recover, much like our kids never do, either.

It’s great to watch these “doctors” dig themselves into a bigger and bigger hole. I’m not sure doctors like David Gorski realizes how silly their comments look to the average American and how much they have exposed themselves as the true story of what Desiree went through emerges. Thank you, Orac, for showing the world your true colors, because the world is most certainly watching.

The desperation with which apologists for the vaccine industry have gone about trying to savage the credibility of the Desiree Jennings case illustrates how damaging the story has been to the pharmaceutical lobby and their floundering agenda to coerce as many people as possible into taking their dangerous swine flu shot.

The Jennings case, allied to the story out of Germany about how elitists were given access to a special version of the vaccine that didn’t contain additives but was not available to the general public, has undoubtedly contributed to the mass resistance to the H1N1 shot that continues to build across Europe, Canada and North America.

No amount of callous back-biting, gnashing of teeth, and contrived smear attempts on behalf of the vaccine lobby and their media apologists can now stop that momentum. The word is out – people know what’s in your vaccines and there’s no way to reverse that revelation.

Radical Islam

"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a  fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an ever lasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men." Samuel Adams

NEWS FLASH:
Feds move to seize 4 mosques, tower linked to Iran
By ADAM GOLDMAN , 11.13.09, 12:36 AM EST
NEW YORK -- Federal prosecutors took steps Thursday to seize four U.S. mosques and a Fifth Avenue skyscraper owned by a nonprofit Muslim organization long suspected of being secretly controlled by the Iranian government.
In what could prove to be one of the biggest counterterrorism seizures in U.S. history, prosecutors filed a civil complaint in federal court against the Alavi Foundation, seeking the forfeiture of more than $500 million in assets.
The assets include bank accounts; Islamic centers consisting of schools and mosques in
New York City, Maryland, California and Houston; more than 100 acres in Virginia; and a 36-story glass office tower in New York.
Confiscating the properties would be a sharp blow against Iran, which has been accused by the U.S. government of bankrolling terrorism and trying to build a nuclear bomb.

ACT! for America launched a national petition calling for a government investigation of CAIR, due to the mounting revelations of CAIR misdeeds and ties to terrorist organizations.

Holder to Speak at CAIR Event
November 10, 2009; by Jim Meyers
Attorney General Eric Holder will deliver a keynote speech at a gathering that includes an Islamic group linked to a Muslim terrorist organization.
Holder will speak in Detroit on Nov. 19 at the first annual awards banquet of Advocates and Leaders for Police and Community Trust, a coalition of law enforcement and community groups. That coalition includes the local branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Politico reported.
CAIR was an unindicted co-conspirator in the terrorism financing case against the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development. Five Holy Land officers were convicted in 2008.
"During that trial, evidence was introduced that demonstrated a relationship among CAIR, individual CAIR founders...and the Palestine Committee," FBI Congressional liaison Richard Powers wrote in an April letter to Sen. John Kyl, R-Ariz.
"Evidence was also introduced that demonstrated a relationship between the Palestine Committee and Hamas, which was designated as a terrorist organization in 1995. In light of that evidence the FBI suspended all formal contacts between CAIR and the FBI."

It’s Radical Islam, Stupid

Steve Emerson

CAIRIn 1993, a secret meeting of the Muslim Brotherhood Palestine Committee – mostly senior Hamas leaders – was held in a Philadelphia Marriott. The group discussed new ways to secretly funnel money to Hamas and of creating a new public relations organization to deceive the American about their true objectives of helping Hamas.

Less than a year later, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) was created to serve as a front group for Hamas. Since that time, it has morphed into a quasi legitimate "Islamic civil rights" group portrayed in some circles as the equivalent of the NAACP. For 14 years, CAIR got away with the lying to us about who they are, justifying Islamic terrorist attacks, legitimizing suicide bombings, presenting speakers who had been Holocaust deniers, making incendiary presentations about the United States and urging Muslims not to talk to the FBI. CAIR claims that that there is no such thing as radical Islam, but rather a secret cabal to attack all of Islam, while secretly receiving millions of dollars from Saudi financiers and attacking terrorist prosecutions as somehow an "attack on Islam."

CAIR now has dozens of chapters which host annual banquets featuring not only radical speakers, but outside guests including chiefs of police, congressmen, FBI and DHS officials – even getting Tampa and Houston to declare "CAIR Day” in their respective cities. (In fairness, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio announced this year that she would no longer do so after studying CAIR's record.)

On the other side, the FBI – despite 14 years of a cozy relationship with CAIR – finally decided to sever relations with CAIR in late 2008 for its ties to Hamas. In the trial of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, an FBI agent testified that CAIR was a front for Hamas. In other words, CAIR was a front for a terrorist group. And it was named as an un-indicted co-conspirator as well in the case.

Bravo to the FBI for making the right and politically courageous decision.

Last week, a new book, Muslim Mafia, disclosed or elaborated on many of these developments within CAIR. Four Congressmen, led by Sue Myrick, (R-NC),Muslim Mafia held a press conference to protest the fact that CAIR, a Hamas front group, had a plan to insert interns into key congressional committees. The book made plenty of other disclosures that were highlighted by the Congressman.

And what happened? Those other points were discarded by the media, which picked up CAIR's dissembling spin that the Congressmen advocated a witch hunt against all Muslim staffers on Capitol Hill. They said no such thing.

CNN never challenged any of the demonstrably false statements made by a CAIR official it interviewed. The news website Politico whitewashed CAIR. Cynthia Tucker of the Atlanta Journal Constitution called CAIR a "mainstream" group unfairly targeted by right wing wackos. Congressmen John Conyers and Loretta Sanchez, who had done CAIR's bidding for years, were among those who leapt to CAIR's defense. They all bought into CAIR's manifestly ludicrous claim that attacking CAIR was somehow tantamount to attacking all of Islam.

That has been CAIR's modus operandi since its inception.

CAIR often throws out unsubstantiated charges of bigotry to deflect attention away from its detailed and documented record of conning the American people. My organization challenged those specious claims in a thorough report that can be seen here.

Much of the damning information about CAIR came out well before the book, primarily through evidence in the HLF trial. And yet earlier this year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ordered that CAIR officials be included in conference calls about the Middle East; the State Department even dispatched key CAIR officials – some of whom have made blatantly racist statements claiming that the reports of the Darfur genocide was actually part of a "Zionist" conspiracy – on official U.S. diplomatic missions. The Department of Homeland Security, despite being briefed that CAIR was a front group for a terrorist organization, had official meetings with CAIR. And it appointed recently as a senior advisor to DHS a member of an organization that believes that Hezbollah is a good group that should not be classified as terrorist.

And in the last few years, National Public Radio (NPR), the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and the Detroit News – to pick at random from the media – have become a cheerleading squad for CAIR, interviewing CAIR officials as if they were no different that Rotary Club officials while suppressing any negative information about CAIR. For the mainstream media, it seems, the government is more of an evil force than Hamas. The New York Times' public editor even made the startling admission last year that it did not call Hamas a terrorist group, "though it sponsors acts of terror against Israel."

The reason? The paper's Jerusalem bureau chief finds "the word terrorist is politically loaded and overused" and there are Hamas members not directly involved in killing people.

And not all Klansmen engaged in lynching. But no one would hesitate to call out the KKK for the racism and terror at the root of its ideology and tactics.

Contrast that with the free pass given to CAIR. Where is CAIR on stoning on women? Senior CAIR officials adamantly refuse to condemn the barbaric practice of stoning Muslim women. Where is CAIR on Israel and Jews? Some senior CAIR officials routinely refer to Jews as "Zionazis" and top CAIR guests at their dinners – most recently former Congressman Paul Findley – blamed Israel for the horrific attacks on 9/11. Right after 9/11, top CAIR officials denied that Saudis were behind those horrific attacks.

There is a much larger pattern here that just the apologia or selective amnesia for CAIR. The free pass given to radical Islam has become a pandemic. The Goldstone Report, which purported to document "Israeli war crimes" in the war with Hamas in January, was one of the most dangerously one-sided, dishonest reports ever produced by the United Nations. Naturally the New York Times played it as a lead item on the front page without any skepticism by their reporter, who is known to take CAIR hand outs.

The Goldstone report effectively took all of the propaganda put out by Hamas – much of it demonstrably false – and presented it as a fact. If applied to the United States, the report would have branded every soldier and every officer in the Iraq and Afghanistan war a "war criminal." The fact that the Goldstone report has gotten this far is attributable to one thing only: the existence of a powerful Islamic lobby at the United Nations.

In yet another example of the inverted focus when it comes to radical Islam, Random House, Yale University Press, and now a German publisher, won't publish books that are "critical" of, or potentially offensive to, Muslim extremists. Even the much celebrated journalist Fareed Zakaria of CNN and Newsweek showed his true profile in cowardice when he advised Yale University Press not to include images of the Prophet Mohammed in a book about the controversy stirred by the 2005 publication of the Danish cartoons.

There's been a lot of talk lately about balanced reporting. These examples show how easily terrorists and their sympathizers receive more than the benefit of the doubt in the public debate. They get outright support from supposedly neutral third party observers and license to continue their deceit and treachery.

The mind boggles.

Exclusive: Fort Hood Shooting Should Have Americans Asking Government Some Serious Questions

The Editors

Today, Americans are still reeling from the shocking events at Fort Hood, Texas, where Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire, killing 13 and wounding 31. Among the victims were both military members and civilians.

While authorities continue to try to piece the whys and wherefores together, here is what we know: Maj. Hasan, who had recently finished his psychiatry residency, received deployment orders for Iraq, which reportedly distressed him. Around 1:30 p.m. CT (2:30 p.m. ET) yesterday, Hasan opened fire with two handguns in the Soldiers Readiness Processing Center on the west side of the base, which according to an Army spokesman, is the processing center was where soldiers “cycle through as they prepare to deploy.” Hasan was shot and wounded during the incident.

According to one of Hasan’s co-workers in the psych ward at Fort Hood, Hasan made comments to the effect that Americans should not be in the Middle East, and that maybe Muslims should stand up and fight against the aggressor.

CAIR was quick to release a statement denouncing the act, and a senior White House official said there is no evidence that this was a terrorist attack.

Although we don’t want to draw any conclusions before the facts are all in, this incident does prompt a number of serious questions: We have yet another incident of a Muslim soldier killing fellow U.S. Army soldiers. Is there a pattern? What about the recent case of Najibullah Zazi, the 24-year-old Afghan immigrant accused (with other, as yet unnamed suspects) of plotting for over a year to “use one or more weapons of mass destruction” in the U.S.? How about the teen from Jordan who was indicted for planning to bomb a Dallas skyscraper? Or the homegrown jihad cell in North Carolina, whose front man was Muslim convert Daniel Patrick Boyd? And what should we make of the investigations of terror activity in Massachusetts and Ohio?

At what point do such “isolated incidents,” as they are called by the current government, become an irrefutable pattern?

There are more questions that the American people should be asking, and demanding answers from those in charge:

  • How can we deny that radical Islamists have not penetrated our institutions for nefarious reasons?
  • How many more are there?
  • How many more incidents will occur before we wake up?
  • How long will it take our government to realize this is our enemy?
  • Had any of the busted terror plots listed above come to fruition, would they be called “man-caused disasters,” as current Homeland Security protocol dictates?
Americans are waiting for answers. Will we receive satisfactory ones?

Fort Hood: The Largest ‘Terror Act’ Since 9/11

Dr. Walid Phares

The Fort Hood killings, perpetrated by Major Malik Nadal Hasan, a psychiatric doctor by training, no matter what the judiciary reports will conclude is, for now, the largest single Terror act in America since 9/11. This quantitative finding will take into consideration dramatic change in the data released by authorities. However the most important matter now is not to fail in our analysis of the motives. This is not an issue of sheer frustration because of foreign policy or revenge for racist slurs, nor this is an issue of simply being a Muslim American or a member of any faith. This is an issue of radicalization of individuals by an extremist ideology, Jjhadism, which fuels acts of terror. And the main question should be, when did Hasan radicalize and who indoctrinated him? Everything else will fall in place once we have these answers. Moreover, this would allow us to detect other potential terror acts that may be in the making.

The shooting inside a U.S. military installation that led to the killing of many personnel compels us to ponder. Over the past few years and months authorities have stopped attempts on similar attacks. The Fort Dix jihadi plot, dismantled in 2006, aimed at performing a killing of military personnel inside the base. Other cells, dismantled in Georgia, New York and North Carolina also had plans for attacking military installations on US soil. But more importantly a number of lone wolves have also expressed intentions to attack military personnel.

This year, a person by the name Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, 23, shot two U.S. military at the Army-Navy Career Center in a shopping center in west Little Rock, killing one. In cyberspace, jihadi threats against U.S. military in the homeland and against American cities have been ongoing. Information collected by authorities, including from suspects and indicted individuals has shown a pattern by the Jihadists (militants or propagandists) indicating their intentions to strike at military and security installations.Read more here.

Terrorism at Fort Hood: More Attacks to Come

Deborah Schurman-Kauflin, PhD

Yesterday a tragedy occurred on U.S. soil. Fort Hood was attacked. Suspect Major Nidal Malik Hasan was a psychiatrist getting ready to be deployed overseas. He had recently been moved from Walter Reed Hospital to Fort Hood Texas (Castro and Barrett, 2009). Federal law enforcement knew of Hasan due to some inflammatory postings made using his name several months before the shootings. In the postings, it was said that Hasan spoke positively of suicide bombings (Blackledge, 2009). At this point, all the facts are not in, but clearly, something went terribly wrong at Fort Hood.

Police and Military are prized targets in terrorism. Just one day before this shooting, five British soldiers were gunned down by an Afghan police officer at a checkpoint (Partlow, 2009). He was a terror member who had infiltrated for the sole purpose of killing infidels, according to the Taliban. This tactic of infiltration is not new. Notorious terrorist Ayman al-Zawahiri has always spoken of infiltrating the enemy’s military, knowing that doing so would inflict horrific damage (Schurman-Kauflin, 200 .

This is something that will be seen within the U.S. more often. Whether an individual betrays his country and turns his loyalties while serving in the armed forces, or whether the mole intentionally joins law enforcement or the military with the intent to cause destruction, attacking a military post or police department is a major victory for terrorists. Because military and police represent strength and protection, to attack at these locales sends a message that your protectors cannot protect themselves. It is meant to frighten and degrade. Police Sgt. Kimberly Munley Hailed as Hero After Fort Hood MunleyShooting

Ana Campoy reports on the Fort Hood shooting.

Prayers and thanks flooded the apparent Twitter feed of Sgt. Kimberly Munley, the civilian police officer hailed as a hero for stopping the shooting rampage at Fort Hood.

One admirer sent a “bear hug.” She “is one outstanding brave cop!” another wrote. And from a third: “thank you for stopping that mad man.” The Twitter feed includes what appears to be a photo of Sgt. Munley.

Sgt. Munley, 34 years old, was credited by Army officials with firing the bullets that brought down Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist who allegedly opened fire in the base’s Soldier Readiness Processing Center on Thursday afternoon.

Survivors described the scene as chaotic: the lone gunman spraying bullets in all directions, unarmed soldiers falling, screaming, scrambling to respond. Many soldiers ripped off their uniforms to use as tourniquets; others ignored their own injuries to help those more gravely wounded.

Lt. Gen. Bob Cone, the top commander at Fort Hood, said Friday that Sgt. Munley and her partner responded within three minutes of reported gunfire. Gen. Cone said Sgt. Munley shot the gunman four times despite being shot herself. “It was an amazing and an aggressive performance by this police officer,” he said. Read more here.

Retracing steps of suspected Fort Hood shooter, Nidal Malik Hasan

As authorities try to find a motive for the Texas attacks, details of a devout Muslim begin to emerge.

By Bob Drogin and Faye Fiore

November 7, 2009

Reporting from Killeen, Texas, and Silver Spring, Md. -- Over the last few weeks, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan drove off the vast Army base at Ft. Hood, Texas, at least a dozen times to enjoy seafood dinners with Duane Reasoner Jr., an 18-year-old he was mentoring in the ways of Islam.

They would pray at the simple Masjidu-Ttaqwa prayer hall out along the highway, hit the all-you-can-eat buffet at the Golden Corral and then rush back for evening worship. Twice they drove to Hasan's one-bedroom apartment to pick up books or to talk.

Only once -- on Wednesday, the night before Hasan allegedly shouted, "Allahu akbar!" pulled out two guns and opened fire on dozens of fellow soldiers -- did the dinner talk stray from religion.

"He said he didn't want to go to Iraq or Afghanistan," said Reasoner, who was raised as a Catholic. "He didn't want to be deployed. He said Muslims shouldn't be in the U.S. military, because obviously Muslims shouldn't kill Muslims. He told me not to join the Army."

Ft. Hood

My heart was in my throat when this story first broke. My son had just arrived back in the states from Iraq, and his base is Ft. Hood. Bless my son for calling me straight away to let me know he was okay. He had been given two days to take care of business and running his errands. He wasn't even on the base and was not sure if he might have to get a hotel room last night. (I still don't know if he did or not as it was late when the base came out of lockdown).

My thoughts may or may not be very popular, but since 9/11 I have dug deep into Islam. I do not see Hasan as the problem. This Muslim is only a symptom of the real problem. A total failure of our government and news media to learn what Islam really is, and a total failure to educate the masses. I have watched the news footage of Bush and Blair and other noted "leaders" spew forth about Islam being a religion of peace and that it's only the few radicals that do the violence. Stupid stupid people!!!!! They are about peace, that is true. But their idea of peace and our idea of peace are two totally different things. Their idea of peace is when everyone is under their rule and living under Sharia.

Islam is not a system of religion. Many Westerners fail to grasp that. Islam is a WAY OF LIFE. It has religion, but it's also government, culture and traditions peculiar to Islam. It is perfectly legal for them to lie to a non-Muslim. They can say anything to appease you, all the while plotting when to use the knife in your back. Our founding fathers were well aware of them. They called them Mohetmans in their writings. It is because of them that they argued passionately over giving unbridled freedom of religion. Some who argued against freedom of religion, did so out of concern that the Mohetmans could take advantage of this someday. Others disagreed, and in the end it was felt that Americans would never be so stupid as to ever allow them into our country, or stupid enough to ever let Christianity be usurped as the dominant religion. Oops.

Our ignorant leaders and ignorant populace are the real problem. When it is understood that Islam is not mainly about religion, that it is all about dominance and control, then, maybe then, the real solution of banning Muslims and their way of life known as Islam can effectively be eradicated from our soil. God help us all.

Call To Action

COMMENT:  The first thing a newly elected congressman does when he or she arrives in Washington is to raise his or her hand to say that "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States Constitution..." I believe that this bill is unconstitutional on its face.  How does the government get away with telling us that we have to buy health insurance and then fine us if we don't?  Is is a stretch to say that a vote for this travesty is a violation of that sacred oath?

The first votes on Obama-Reid-Pelosi health care bills could come as early as this week--in fact the Pelosi may schedule a House vote on Thursday.  Folks, this is for all the marbles.  We MUST do everything in our power to STOP these bills in their tracks.  We want all our Tennessee congressmen to vote NO.   Please take a few minutes to view the videos below.  Note that Cong. Bachmann is urging folks to come to Washington if at all possible to make a 'HOUSE CALL' on Thursday.  In addition to 'action', please make this a matter of prayer. If the government gains control of America's health care we will end up with limited access, rationed care, more aborted babies and the government will be greatly expanded.

We are targeting Democrat Congressman.  If your TN Congressman is Lincoln Davis, Jim Cooper, Bart Gordon, John Tanner or Steve Cohen, PLEASE go HERE to send them an email.  Better still, go
HERE to find their phone numbers and CALL THEM.
Out-of-states subscribers, go

CBO Estimates House Bill Cost at $1.055 Trillion

The Congressional Budget Office said Thursday the U.S. House health-care system reform has a price tag $1.055 trillion. The hefty estimate also does not include $245 billion needed to stop Medicare payments to doctors from decreasing, according to a nastaq.com report

The Worst Bill Ever

PelosiEpic new spending and taxes, pricier insurance, rationed care, dishonest accounting: The Pelosi health bill has it all.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has reportedly told fellow Democrats that she's prepared to lose seats in 2010 if that's what it takes to pass ObamaCare, and little wonder. The health bill she unwrapped last Thursday, which President Obama hailed as a "critical milestone," may well be the worst piece of post-New Deal legislation ever introduced.

In a rational political world, this 1,990-page runaway train would have been derailed months ago. With spending and debt already at record peacetime levels, the bill creates a new and probably unrepealable middle-class entitlement that is designed to expand over time. Taxes will need to rise precipitously, even as ObamaCare so dramatically expands government control of health care that eventually all medicine will be rationed via politics.

Yet at this point, Democrats have dumped any pretense of genuine bipartisan "reform" and moved into the realm of pure power politics as they race against the unpopularity of their own agenda. The goal is to ram through whatever income-redistribution scheme they can claim to be "universal coverage." The result will be destructive on every level—for the health-care system, for the country's fiscal condition, and ultimately for American freedom and prosperity.

•The spending surge. The Congressional Budget Office figures the House program will cost $1.055 trillion over a decade, which while far above the $829 billion net cost that Mrs. Pelosi fed to credulous reporters is still a low-ball estimate. Most of the money goes into government-run "exchanges" where people earning between 150% and 400% of the poverty level—that is, up to about $96,000 for a family of four in 2016—could buy coverage at heavily subsidized rates, tied to income. The government would pay for 93% of insurance costs for a family making $42,000, 72% for another making $78,000, and so forth.

At least at first, these benefits would be offered only to those whose employers don't provide insurance or work for small businesses with 100 or fewer workers. The taxpayer costs would be far higher if not for this "firewall"—which is sure to cave in when people see the deal their neighbors are getting on "free" health care. Mrs. Pelosi knows this, like everyone else in Washington.

Even so, the House disguises hundreds of billions of dollars in additional costs with budget gimmicks. It "pays for" about six years of program with a decade of revenue, with the heaviest costs concentrated in the second five years. The House also pretends Medicare payments to doctors will be cut by 21.5% next year and deeper after that, "saving" about $250 billion. ObamaCare will be lucky to cost under $2 trillion over 10 years; it will grow more after that.

• Expanding Medicaid, gutting private Medicare. All this is particularly reckless given the unfunded liabilities of Medicare—now north of $37 trillion over 75 years. Mrs. Pelosi wants to steal $426 billion from future Medicare spending to "pay for" universal coverage. While Medicare's price controls on doctors and hospitals are certain to be tightened, the only cut that is a sure thing in practice is gutting Medicare Advantage to the tune of $170 billion. Democrats loathe this program because it gives one of out five seniors private insurance options.

As for Medicaid, the House will expand eligibility to everyone below 150% of the poverty level, meaning that some 15 million new people will be added to the rolls as private insurance gets crowded out at a cost of $425 billion. A decade from now more than a quarter of the population will be on a program originally intended for poor women, children and the disabled.

Even though the House will assume 91% of the "matching rate" for this joint state-federal program—up from today's 57%—governors would still be forced to take on $34 billion in new burdens when budgets from Albany to Sacramento are in fiscal collapse. Washington's budget will collapse too, if anything like the House bill passes.

• European levels of taxation. All told, the House favors $572 billion in new taxes, mostly by imposing a 5.4-percentage-point "surcharge" on joint filers earning over $1 million, $500,000 for singles. This tax will raise the top marginal rate to 45% in 2011 from 39.6% when the Bush tax cuts expire—not counting state income taxes and the phase-out of certain deductions and exemptions. The burden will mostly fall on the small businesses that have organized as Subchapter S or limited liability corporations, since the truly wealthy won't have any difficulty sheltering their incomes.

This surtax could hit ever more earners because, like the alternative minimum tax, it isn't indexed for inflation. Yet it still won't be nearly enough. Even if Congress had confiscated 100% of the taxable income of people earning over $500,000 in the boom year of 2006, it would have only raised $1.3 trillion. When Democrats end up soaking the middle class, perhaps via the European-style value-added tax that Mrs. Pelosi has endorsed, they'll claim the deficits that they created made them do it.

Under another new tax, businesses would have to surrender 8% of their payroll to government if they don't offer insurance or pay at least 72.5% of their workers' premiums, which eat into wages. Such "play or pay" taxes always become "pay or pay" and will rise over time, with severe consequences for hiring, job creation and ultimately growth. While the U.S. already has one of the highest corporate income tax rates in the world, Democrats are on the way to creating a high structural unemployment rate, much as Europe has done by expanding its welfare states.

Meanwhile, a tax equal to 2.5% of adjusted gross income will also be imposed on some 18 million people who CBO expects still won't buy insurance in 2019. Democrats could make this penalty even higher, but that is politically unacceptable, or they could make the subsidies even higher, but that would expose the (already ludicrous) illusion that ObamaCare will reduce the deficit.

• The insurance takeover. A new "health choices commissioner" will decide what counts as "essential benefits," which all insurers will have to offer as first-dollar coverage. Private insurers will also be told how much they are allowed to charge even as they will have to offer coverage at virtually the same price to anyone who applies, regardless of health status or medical history.

The cost of insurance, naturally, will skyrocket. The insurer WellPoint estimates based on its own market data that some premiums in the individual market will triple under these new burdens. The same is likely to prove true for the employer-sponsored plans that provide private coverage to about 177 million people today. Over time, the new mandates will apply to all contracts, including for the large businesses currently given a safe harbor from bureaucratic tampering under a 1974 law called Erisa. Happy Halloween!

For the first time I have no kids that will be trick or treating this year! Sidney decided several months ago that he was too big to do that anymore. I agree, he is. He turned 14 this summer. I am proud that he recognized that fact without any prompting from me. But I will miss it. And since I don't work tonight, my co-workers will be spared my witch costume. No less than two purple wigs with the traditional hat and flashing bat earrings LOL. Maybe next year! For now I have some cute photos to share with you. I never cease to be amazed at people's artistic and creative abilities.

I thought the last one was especially cute.

But my penchant for saving the best for last,....GENE IS COMING HOME!!!!! In less than a week Gene will be back from Iraq!!!!! I thank God for protecting him and I rejoice over his homecoming. Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons, and Thanksgiving my favorite holiday. We are mightily blessed indeed. Lord willing, Gene will be here for Thanksgiving.

May God keep you and your richly blessed!

Common Links In Swine Flu Deaths

Common Links in Swine Flu Deaths...
Posted by: Dr. Mercola

staphylococcus aureusA recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that of the 36 children who died from H1N1 from April to August, six had no chronic health conditions. But all of them had a co-occurring bacterial infection.

The most common co-occurring infection that causes flu-related deaths is staphylococcus aureus. A third of the population carries it, most in their nose or on their skin.

The flu causes upper respiratory damage, which allows the staph to make its way into the lungs.

Dr. Mercola's Comments:

This is exactly what I was referring to in Wednesday’s special swine flu alert. If you missed it, I urge you to take a moment to review it now. It received over 80,000 views within hours of being published.

In it, I discussed the prevailing propaganda being streamed through popularTV programslike 60-Minutes.

60-Minutes’ Story Also Highlighted Bacterial Infection as Flu Tragedy

Their segment, which aired last Sunday, did ask some hard questions to the Assistant Surgeon General. But they didn't ask why CDC officials persist in telling the public that this H1N1 strain of influenza is quite dangerous when the experience of those in the southern hemisphere (which just finished their flu season) is in direct conflict with what the CDC is telling the American people.

And, just like most of the mainstream media, 60-Minutes did not ask some of the most essential questions that need to be answered if you are to understand what is really going on with this "pandemic."

The issue of coexisting bacterial infections is one of those questions that need to be looked at more closely.

Their segment followed the story of a young high school football player who was infected with the H1N1 virus, received some form of medication for his flu symptoms, and then quickly developed a life-threatening staph infection in his lungs.

However, no questions were asked about what type of medication he received, even though it was clear that, after recovering slightly, he then quickly deteriorated after receiving the medication.

There was also no mention of whether the teen had already been vaccinated for seasonal or H1N1 influenza, either recently or in the past years.

A Canadian preliminary study is provocative in that it suggests that those who have gotten seasonal influenza vaccine in the past may be at greater risk for getting H1N1 and having complications.

The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) is calling for a comparison of vaccinated vs. unvaccinated individuals for all health outcomes, and I believe it would be prudent to do so.

After all, in order for anyone to make an informed decision about vaccines, you need to have certain facts at hand, not conjecture stating that something is "believed to be safe" even though it has never been studied!

Why Aren’t These Important Questions Being Asked?

So far 81 children have died from H1N1 in the US. The death of any child is tragic. However, using these deaths to potentially harm countless others who are not naturally at risk may be even worse.

Here are some of the questions that need honest answers, as they may paint an entirely different picture than what we are currently told by health officials and the media.

How many pediatric deaths occurred in children who:

  • Were positively lab confirmed as H1N1?

  • Had underlying chronic immune and brain dysfunction?

  • Were fully vaccinated according to CDC recommendations?

  • Had received influenza vaccine this year?

  • Had received seasonal influenza vaccine in previous years?

  • Received Tamiflu or another anti-viral prior to death?

  • Had a coinciding bacterial infection with H1N1?

  • Were never vaccinated - totally unvaccinated?

With only 81 sets of medical records to review, someone ought to be able to compile these statistics.

So far we know that, of the 36 children who died from H1N1 between April and August of this year, 30 had some form of chronic health condition, and all of them had a co-occurring bacterial infection.

Clearly, having a robust, well-functioning immune system is the best way to ensure your body’s innate ability to fight off this mild flu virus, and not succumb to secondary infections such as staphylococcus aureus.

I’d also like to know how many flu deaths might be attributed to antibiotic-resistant staph infections.

According to the Star Tribune, the most common co-occurring infection that causes flu-related deaths is staphylococcus aureus, which is commonly found on your skin and in your nose. About a third of the population carries it.

Unfortunately, methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, also known as MRSA, has become a serious public health problem, one that is getting progressively worse and actually exacts a greater death toll than "modern plagues" like AIDS.

Needless to say, we already know the reason for the ever increasing threat of MRSA – over use of antibiotics, both in medicine and conventional farming practices. It’s an entirely man-made problem, the answer to which is exercising RESTRAINT in the use of antibiotics, so that they can actually work when someone’s life is really on the line…

It could be of great value to have more facts about each of these H1N1 flu deaths.

But the fact still remains that flu vaccines will nearly always decrease your overall immune function, not enhance it!

Obese at Six Times Higher Risk from H1N1 Complications

Most authorities agree that the H1N1 variant virus is quite mild. The vast majority of people (99.99%) are having very brief and mild illnesses from this virus. And yet, some people do die from it -- some die each and every flu season. But who, and why?

Unfortunately, the media is not giving you the answers to these questions.

I will publish an excellent review, and a two-hour audio interview with Dr. Russell Blaylock on this issue on Tuesday, so please stay tuned! Because as he will explain in greater detail, 100 percent of those who have died had underlying health problems before they were infected.

In addition, one of the more powerful risk factors for being admitted to the ICU and of dying is obesity.

Turns out obese people are admitted 6x more often than those of normal weight. And obesity plays a significant role in the risk to children and pregnant women as well, something that has never been discussed by the media, the CDC or the public health officials.

According to Dr. Blaylock, one study found that 32.7% of those admitted to the ICU had asthma or other chronic pulmonary disease, far higher than the general population.
Obesity is also associated with a high incidence of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome, both of which would increase your risk of having a serious infection, even to mild viruses.

BEWARE: Taking Tylenol with the Flu Shot May Actually Make You Worse

According to two Czechoslovakian studies, published in the journal Lancet on October 17, giving your child an analgesic to prevent fever when getting a vaccine could make things worse.

Their studies showed that after vaccination, the immune response was lower among babies who were given acetaminophen (such as Tylenol), right after they received the shot.

The vaccines used in the study were for pneumococcal disease, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis B, polio and rotavirus. No flu vaccines were included. However, it’s likely the effect would still be the same.

MSN.com quotes infectious disease expert Dr. Marc Siegel as saying that:

"…the conclusion that Tylenol not only suppresses fever, but also decreases immune response is plausible. After all, what is an immune response? It's an inflammatory response."

The researchers also found that although fewer infants developed a fever after getting acetaminophen, they also developed significantly fewer antibodies against the disease they were vaccinated against. They believe the acetaminophen’s anti-inflammatory activity might interfere with your body’s immune system antibody response, which could explain why the vaccine was rendered less effective.

However, what is not mentioned by either MSN, or foodconsumer.org, who also ran an article on these findings, is that a lowered immune response also means you're more susceptible to develop other infections. And, as we now know, it is secondary infections such as bacterial staph infections that turn out to be deadly -- not the flu virus in and of itself.

You Take Your Chances Either Way…

I also want to stress that you must remember that you are taking your chances either way, whether you get the flu shot or take your chances with the flu.

This year, flu deaths are trumpeted across the world, and yet people are also dying and suffering life-altering disabilities shortly after receiving the flu vaccine, whether it be the seasonal- or the H1N1 vaccine. (They’re claimed to be nearly identical anyway, so why would it matter which it is?)

For example, here are just a few recent stories that receive nowhere near the same amount of attention. In fact, most if not all, are being portrayed as unfortunate coincidences that have nothing to do with the fact they just received a flu shot, and no further investigations are made:

Remember, the medical industry ACCEPTS these occasional deaths as collateral damage during mass vaccinations and other drug interventions.

The question is, do you?

Flu Mortality, Unrelated to Vaccines, Has Been Down for Years

Also remember that the mortality rate of the swine flu is extremely low.

Dr. Ronald Whitmont, M.D. reports in a recent article of The Epoch Times:

"So far, H1N1 is much less severe than the regular flu. The calculated mortality rate for H1N1 in 2009 is only 0.5 percent.

In 2006, the death rate for influenza was 0.77 percent, and in 2005 it was 0.79 percent.

Of course, the CDC and the pharmaceutical industries claim credit for this reduction in death rate, but statistical analysis shows that this trend predated the introduction of the vaccine and is not correlated with either vaccine or antiviral medication use." [Emphasis mine.]

Unfortunately, no one knows what the mortality rate is within, say, two weeks of receiving a flu vaccine, because there’s no tracking method in place tracing each and every person who is vaccinated.

These are the kind of statistics that are sorely needed.

Dr. Mercola on FacebookHow to Prevent Flu the Natural Way

Please understand that there are effective ways to reduce your chances of ever getting the flu in the first place, without ever going near a vaccine.

H1N1 is a milder than normal flu bug, and it is the state of your immune system – not the virus itself – that determines whether or not you will get sick, even if you come in contact with the virus.

Following these simple guidelines can go a long way to help keep your immune system in optimal working order:

  • Optimize your vitamin D levels. This may be one of your most important strategies for maintaining optimal immune function against all disease, not just the flu. Vitamin D has been well documented to increase the production of over 200 antimicrobial peptides that fight infection.

  • Avoid Sugar. Sugar decreases the function of your immune system almost immediately, and as you likely know, a strong immune system is key to fighting off viruses and other illness. Be aware that sugar is present in foods you may not suspect, like ketchup and fruit juice.

  • Get Enough Rest. Just like it becomes harder for you to get your daily tasks done if you're tired, if your body is overly fatigued it will be harder for it to fight the flu. Be sure to check out my article Guide to a Good Night's Sleep for some great tips to help you get quality rest.

  • Don't Let Stress Become Overwhelming. We all face some stress everyday, but if stress becomes overwhelming then your body will be less able to fight off the flu and other illness.

If you feel that stress is taking a toll on your health, consider using an energy psychology tool such as the Meridian Tapping Technique (MTT), which is remarkably effective in relieving stress associated with all kinds of events, from work to family to trauma. You can check out my free, 25-page MTT manual for some guidelines on how to perform it on yourself.

  • Exercise. When you exercise, you increase your circulation and your blood flow throughout your body. The components of your immune system are also better circulated, which means your immune system has a better chance of finding an illness before it spreads.

  • Take a good source of animal based omega-3 fats like Krill Oil. Increase your intake of healthy and essential fats like the omega-3 found in krill oil, which is crucial for maintaining health.

  • Wash Your Hands. Washing your hands will decrease your likelihood of spreading a virus to your nose, mouth or other people. Be sure you don't use antibacterial soap for this -- antibacterial soaps are completely unnecessary, and they cause far more harm than good. Instead, identify a simple chemical-free soap that you can switch your family to.

  • Take appropriate supplements like oil of oregano extract, propolis, olive leaf extract, elder flower extract, acerola, and DMG or effective homeopathic remedies.

However you will need to educate yourself on the particular benefits of each BEFORE you purchase any supplements on that list.

Any company that informs you of the actions of alternative remedies for H1N1 will be in violation of US Federal law. A newly created Swine Flu Task Force has been given the authority to shut the business down and even throw owners in jail.

Violations of these new rules are being prosecuted even more aggressively than alternative cancer treatments! Earlier this week, Dr. Andrew Weil actually received an FDA/FTC warning letter that threatens jail time for failure to comply with the rules.

swine flu posters

You Can Make a Difference

Most polls show that we ARE making a difference because more people are becoming educated about influenza and flu vaccines, especially H1N1 swine flu. Recent national polls have revealed that 30 to 50% in many communities are not planning to get a swine flu shot. Those who haven't made up their minds yet have lots of questions. So we have created some posters that you can print and post ALL over your community, your local stores, office and schools.

TENNESSEE EAGLE FORUM WARNS OF THE DANGERS OF CALLING A CON CON. Tennessee Eagle Forum President Bobbie Patray testified in favor of a resolution to reassert "state sovereignty," and included warning about the dangers of calling a Con Con before a specially appointed committee this week. "Eagle Forum is a strong supporter of the 10th Amendment and believes the federal government has overstepped its bounds," she said, "but to call for a federal constitutional convention we feel is a very risky way to go about it in today's political climate." During the meeting when the subject of Con-Con came up, Sen. Henry mentioned that a number years ago he was involved in a national effort to promote the Con-Con, "until Eagle Forum rose up in all their fury" and shot it down!! Watch testimony starting at 22 minute mark.

COMMENT: A number of states introduced resolutions to support state sovereignty. At the end of the day it was only Tennessee  and Alaska that passed these resolutions and had them signed by the respective Governors. [See final language HERE sponsored and passed by Rep. Susan Lynn, R-Lebanon, see her Blog HERE on HJR 108]. As you will see from the articles below, the 'Committee of Conference and Correspondence' will be contacting other states and legislative organizations urging action on this important constitutional issue that does not include a Federal Constitutional Convention. Hopefully, the states and/or organizations can come up with some concrete suggestions for reasserting state sovereignty.  This is definitely something we will be following closely.

Go HERE to read the first draft of the letter to other states.

Tennessee legislative panel asserts 'state sovereignty' from feds

TN FlagNASHVILLE -- A Tennessee legislative committee on Tuesday moved the state to the forefront of efforts by conservatives to reassert "state sovereignty" and rein in the federal government for usurping its constitutional authority.

Acting on a resolution overwhelmingly approved by the legislature in May, a specially appointed "Committee of Conference and Correspondence" voted to send letters to the other 49 state legislatures, inviting them to join Tennessee in a "working group ... to enumerate the abuses of authority by the federal government and to seek repeal of its assumption of powers" and mandates it has imposed on states.

Only one other state -- Alaska -- has adopted a similar "state sovereignty" resolution being pushed nationally by the "tea party" movement and other conservative groups and pundits.

"We really are leaders on this," said Rep. Susan Lynn, R-Mt. Juliet, who sponsored House Joint Resolution 108 that set the events in motion.

Tennessee is urging 49 other states to come together and create a "joint working group between the states" to combat unconstitutional federal legislation and assert state rights.

Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen signed HJR 108, the State Sovereignty Resolution on June 23. According to the Tenth Amendment Center, the resolution created a committee to form a joint working group between the states to enumerate the abuses of authority by the federal government and seek repeal of imposed mandates.

State Rep. Susan Lynn recently wrote a letter to the other 49 state legislatures, inviting them to join the group and warning that the role of the federal government has been "blurred, bent and breached."

"The national government has become a complex system of programs whose purposes lie outside of the responsibilities of the enumerated powers and of securing our natural rights; programs that benefit some while others must pay," Lynn wrote. "Today, the federal government seeks to control the salaries of those employed by private business, to change the provisions of private of contracts, to nationalize banks, insurers and auto manufacturers, and to dictate to every person in the land what his or her medical choices will be."

She continued, "Forcing property from employers to provide healthcare, legislating what individuals are and are not entitled to, and using the labor of some so that others can receive money that they did not earn goes far beyond securing natural rights, and the enumerated powers in the Constitution."

Lynn said that the people created the federal government to be their agent only for certain enumerated purposes.

"The Tenth Amendment defines the total scope of federal power as being that which has been delegated by the people to the federal government, and also that which is absolutely necessary to advancing those powers specifically enumerated in the Constitution of the United States," she wrote. "The rest is to be handled by the state governments, or locally, by the people themselves."

She noted that the Constitution does not include a congressional power to override state laws, nor does it give the judicial branch unlimited jurisdiction over all matters. Attempts to include such provisions in the Constitution were rejected by the Founding Fathers.

"With this in mind," she wrote, "any federal attempt to legislate beyond the Constitutional limits of Congress' authority is a usurpation of state sovereignty – and unconstitutional. Governments and political leaders are best held accountable to the will of the people when government is local. The people of a state know what is best for them; authorities, potentially thousands of miles away, governing their lives is opposed to the very notion of freedom." Read more here.
